Putting the hog back in Hoggetowne.
About
I am here to take ownership! You are empowered. Care a little, and you will be WITH me in this. Too often, do we leave stewardship to those who refuse to build a better future. You are being heard. Normally, on a candidate webpage you are assaulted by ads for donations. I accept NO fiscal donations. I ask that you vote, that you talk to me to keep me in the know, and that you talk to others about our campaign.Mind the following:
I know and respect that there is no, "Magic Money," that nothing is free. I offer vigilance, not guarantees. As Mayor, I will be very hands on, meeting with constituents when not at City Hall, and applauding those that organize for OUR Community. There is no focus without priority.
Here are three:
HOME -> LOCAL CULTURE & BUSINESS
Seek out a fairground for the city. In the mean time, implement available locations such as the racetrack (one example) with compromises until we can establish our own location. If this fails, as a back up, events such as the Hoggetowne Medieval/Fantasy Faire must be allowed to organize for itself, with city provided support until we get what we require.
This would bring business to the town year round, solidifying our market's season long gap due to a lack of student flow. We have options, work with the county, even if we must annex 140 acres off 83rd Way, or the 260 north of the airport. We are here to play ball, have a joust, and my ball is straight skewered.
update
Be it not married to it, we are eyeing the Cabot Koppers Superfund Site as a home for our permanent fairegrounds as well. We are very proud of the organizers who set up a temporary Hoggetowne and look to their leadership in the future. We still require a permanent fairground for this and other events. Raising revenue for the city and stimulating our local economy during the slow season too.

TRANSPORTATION IS KEY
Ensuring funding for Reliable public transportation shall be a Priority. Interconnect the city with a bus system that serves its constituents that are made to rely upon it. Currently, our bus system serves the University well. If residents have another method of transportation, the current system is fine. This is not fine. I mentioned priorities. This must be moved up as a funding priority.Note, our bus drivers should be allocated meal breaks. If this proves too difficult to enforce, pay the drivers to take their breaks. There are some details to be touched on. A lot of people are expected to tap pay, which doesn't always work, with neither the cash option being available, the stop and go nature of public transport starts to hit hiccups.

Policy for Affordability that is ACTUALLY Affordable
People who worked here and those that still do, should be able to live here too.As is our natural environment delicate, so too is our housing ecosystem. An ounce of maintenance is worth a pound of restoration. We must reward good stewardship of our current homes. On top of this, we must reward new housing which is ACTUALLY affordable. The Live Local Act paired with other forms of strategic restructuring & thoughtful zoning can be leveraged to assist in this. Be it, there are grants available, they can only cover so much.
ACTUALLY affordable housing. If you work for a competitively low wage, as seemingly all advertised competitive wages are, you would make roughly $16 an hour, an amount just above minimum wage. Working full-time, 30-40 hours a week, generously 40, so too shall we be. 16 x 40 = 640. That would be 4 x 640 = 2560 a month. Income taxes absorbed, effectively .88 x 2560 = 2252.8. With a third of that, affordable rent would be $750.93. For those of you that, "don't do math," you're welcome. When I hear we can get 20% affordable housing from new apartments, I wonder if we can push for 80 on the same logic. Really, what we need is two thirds, because the highest third of the population is the target for price hiking, especially with new technologies designed to build monopolistic trusts. Then, the rest are expected to pay their rates.I don't offer guarantees, rather vigilance envisioned in a shared goal.Remember, the city possesses levers of control such as City Ordinances and Zoning. Let's put them to work for YOU.
Now for three short tenets:
That's OUR Utility
We will do are part to work WITH GRU to keep costs as low as we can respectfully & responsibly, here on out. I voted to return GRU to the city with the intention of lowering costs. The State now controls our utility. That being said, when it comes to serving our people, we should be on the same page here team.
It's the Peoples' Checkbook, Act Like It
We must be cautious about new spending. We can still have it, but we want to fund what helps pay into growing our city's prosperity. We must be proud of what we choose to fund, otherwise we need to make cuts so we can afford to be proud of what we are building here together, as we are in it with, so to speak.
stave off threats
There shall be NO data center on our soil. Next, is for you to do your part. I am doing mine. I am listening. I am set aside money, working at Walmart to get on the ballot. I call it the City's money. I am engaging with you. I am even keeping this pretty short. Feel free to reach out for more information, but share, and share with me. This is a two-way street. If we can make Community our focus, we will be fortified against State Overreach. The County has received a gazillion petitions refusing a Data Center. This is fantastic! The County is on our side as far as zoning is concerned. We have a base for organizing! Keep an eye on the Gubernatorial race... please.
